Chloe Qisha - Modern Romance:
21st Century Cool Girl: A bop! I feel like this is a classic Chloe song that really represents her song and energy well. It has that energy that I just want to play it again and again and again. It's a FANTASTIC song. Chloe Qisha supremacy! 9/10
Modern Romance: This was definitely my least favourite of the pre-release singles. There's something about it that just doesn't hit as much. The State of Grace comparison by Taylor Swift is definitely still there though, I can't unhear that. Which makes it better because I really like that song! The bridge bit, eh...no thanks. 7/10
Sex, Drugs & Existential Dread: Some haters don't get this song but I really like it. It's infectious! SEX, DRUGS AND EXISTENTIAL DREAD. Maybe the only part I don't like so much is the bit towards the end. That bridge part...not the best part of the song. But the rest, HITS! 8/10
The Boys: One of the songs I got to see live before it was released (I was a fan before it was cool clearly). I remember liking it...so let's see how the studio version goes. Studio chatter or whatever that is..meh. Okay, interesting...Did I like this as much as I thought? The chorus is kinda catchy...hmm. I do like it but I'm not like mega gagged? Stupid teenage fool! Meh to fade outs... 7/10
A-Game: This was definitely the boppier one (I saw this live too). This is a fun bop! I really like this one. I feel like it even somehow improved for me as it went on and I already really liked it. I could see myself repeating this song a LOT. 9/10
Overall Verdict: A fantastic EP. Only 2 new songs were released with this EP but they again go on to highlight what a fantastic artist Chloe Qisha is. The EP is a fun mix of serious and goofy, of bops and slower songs (although some are definitely better songs than others). She has a distinct voice and vision in pop music, and I could see her getting a lot bigger than she is. She has the funky goofy but also serious dance anthems down.
Kilo Kish - Negotiations
digital emotional: I'm very excited for this EP. Let's see how it goes! This sound is a bop I really enjoy a lot. It definitely has a lot of electronic vibes to it. Give me those HITSSS! I really enjoy this. It's funnnnn. 8/10
reprogram: I really do like the vibe of this EP. Again, it has the electronic type of vibes, and it sounds great. It's maybe not quite as good as the last song but it doesn't need to be. It's a chiller vibe and I appreciate it. 7/10
negotiate (feat. Miguel): I'm again less of a fan of this song but I still do enjoy it. Not sure I'm really a mega fan of the feature but ehhh, I guess Miguel is there. The vocal effects do add to the vibe of the EP a lot. I guess I still find it catchy though? I'm a bit confused about my own views of the song I think. Very fun outro though! 7/10
when i came to myself: I feel the same confusion about this track. I definitely do like it. But how much do I like it? Unsure. It has satisfying sounds and I find it good to listen to, but also maybe a bit unsettling at points. But it's definitely a good song. 7/10
DCMU: Okay miss bop! I really enjoyed the production of this one. Probably my favourite song on the EP. It fits the cohesive electronic vibe well but it is just more of a bop too. 8/10
enough: Okay we've discovered a vocoder, love that. They often eat. Okay I take it back, THIS is the best song on the EP. A really catchy bop to end it off. 9/10
Overall Verdict: This was a really good EP! It had a clear vision to it in its electronic vibe and lyrics, but it didn't overstay its welcome. I feel like an album on this line may have been too long and been doing it too much. But this project is executed well, with a variety of different songs, some better than others, but some are fantastic. Great EP!
MØ - Plæygirl
Meat on a Stick: Hmm, a bit of a slow start. Was very much not here for this. Too slow and uninteresting, and just sounds a bit bad too honestly. 4/10
Who Said: This definitely has a lot more of a boppy vibe to it. I enjoyed it a lot more. Hopefully the rest of the album is more along this line than the previous song. 7/10
Knife: This is another hit actually, it may be even better than the last song. Yep, it definitely is. The production is EATING. 8/10
Without You: I really enjoyed this song too actually. Maybe my manifestation works! This is another bopppp. Not so sure about the outro though... 8/10
Joanna (Interlude): Well it's an interlude I suppose. One of the interludes to exist. It's...there. Moving on!
SWEET (feat. Biig Piig): Biig Piig is still an artist I need to check out. Woah, okay, we're going to BOP town. That electronic production, loveeee. Unfortunately here in general I don't think I'm liking it as much as I want to. There's something a bit off or annoying about it. Still a good song though! 7/10
Plæygirl: What the hell is this weirdness going on? Fun! Did we decide to enter our weird ass experimental bag? I guess I'm here for this. I do like the experimental and harsh parts of the production. I think they work quite well. The main part of the song is definitely quite catchy too. 8/10
Keep Møving: Well, that was a sudden transition to the next song. Another bop type of song! Okay scream! Not sure this is entirely my jam somehow. Something about it just isn't hitting as much. Maybe it's the vocals? 6/10
Lose Yourself: This is another hit though! Very much an eat. Production is funnnn. Again not as much of a fan of the outro though. 8/10
Vildchild: I thought we were going back to the experimental bag for a second there but maybe not. This is another miss for me. Very inconsistent album. Yeah, this one is just not hitting Parts of it...ehhh. 6/10
Heartbreak: Mehhhh. Not here for the initial part or the piano part. Unfortunately this is just truly mediocre. Not here for the outro either. Next! 5/10
Wake Me Up: Unfortunately this feels somewhat mediocre too. Like why did we lose the good songs? It just feels mediocre and makes me feel...not a lot. It feels like it could be a lot better than this. I wasn't even feeling it when it dropped, like that's crazyyy for me. 5/10
Overall Verdict: This is a heavily inconsistent album. Some tracks are truly fantastic, and I'd listen to them a lot more. Others are...not great, to put it mildly. It makes it into a heavily inconsistent listen and probably not an album I'd want to return to listening in full.
Singles:
Alessi Rose - Same Mouth: Not the guitar! Nope! Don't want it. I've heard essentially this song so many times, I don't want to hear it again. The chorus kinda eats a bit more but still. 6/10
Arca - Puta: Well I can already tell I'll like this based on the production! Maybe less so based on the vocals though... Sorry, was milky cum just said? Well... Despite that, it was a great listen. 7/10
Arca - Sola: Definitely less of a fan of this single. It's going for the chiller or sadder vibes but I'm not here for it majorly. 6/10
Au/Ra - BLAH: Okay, I know I just complained about hearing this song before and I kinda have...but this one eats more so I can forgive it. I'm hypocritical, sue me! I just really like this type of production. It's definitely an enjoyable and fun listen, but I think something stops it from being a really good song. 7/10
BANKS - Candy: This is technically a deluxe album drop but there's only one new song and the rest are acoustic so it's going here. This carries on with the catchy vibe of a lot of the songs on the standard album. I feel like those production noises are somewhat annoying me too though. It gets a lot better when the fuller production comes in. 6/10
CATTY - Joyride: This was technically released last week but I'm a flop and forgot about it. Sue me! Grand intro jeez! And then a...piano? Okay. This gives almost like musical vibes to me. It's fun though! Especially the chorus, that pops offff. Kesha is marked safe I think, but only just. I enjoyed this a lot! Didn't realise it was as long as it was but honestly, it ate the whole way through. 8/10
Debbii Dawson - Chemical Reaction: This sounds kinda country like? Maybe less so in the chorus but I definitely got country vibes from that verse. Anyway, I was not as much of a fan of this as compared to the other Debbii song I've heard. It has catchy elements to it for sure but it's not my favourite song. I could see it maybe growing on me in future though if I gave it more chances. 6/10
Jessie J - Living My Best Life: Nope, not feeling this. Feels uninspired from the start for me. Sometimes you have to ask the question - did this song need to exist? I certainly don't think so. Meh! I mean it doesn't sound awful or anything...but I'm not here for it. Some of the vocals are great though! 5/10
JoJo Siwa - Bulletproof: Fun production to start with, and then it goes downhill majorly. Awful! At least she can pretend to sing on the studio version unlike her live performances. It's so annoying, I hate it. Unfortunately the chorus is kinda catchy but in that no way makes it good. It's awful. Those verses as well...TERRIBLE! How can such a short song feel like it goes on for so long? So repetitive! 2/10
Kesha - BOY CRAZY.: Fun intro! This is SO MUCH BETTER. Why wasn't THIS one of the previous singles? DELUSIONAL and whatever that other flop were are SO OVER. This is the bop energy we wanted, and more along the lines of JOYRIDE (even though they're not the same). This one is VERY FAST. I am boy crazy sometimes so I can relate... 8/10
Lola Young - One Thing: Aren't I cool because I saw her live years ago before she blew up? I can claim to be an original fan obviously. Anyway, this is not really my vibe to start with. I think Lola sounds kinda annoying here. This was so boring overall, like am I still actually listening to anything? 5/10
Laufey - Tough Luck: I know going into Laufey songs that they'll never be my favourite songs but they're generally pleasant listens for me. This song is no exception to that rule. She always sounds good and her songs are always nice to listen to. Great music for those that enjoy this sort of genre. 6/10
Nemo - Unexplainable: Well, this is a sadder and slower song. Not really sure it's interesting enough to be my thing...unless it changes? Those are some crazy ass vocals that we saw originally on Eurovision...but the song was incredibly boring until like halfway through. 6/10
NERIAH - Out of Your League: He couldn't even keep his bedroom clean...end him (ignore the state of my bedroom please, it's not relevant). This is a fun song, I enjoy this! Again, it's definitely something I've heard before but not every piece of music can reinvent the wheel. Not the McDonalds burger for the anniversary...oh he's OVER. Parts of it are cringe but I don't know, I'm kinda here for it. 7/10
Nova May - POLIZEI: A cute and fun bop! I enjoy this a fair bit. It has that electronic production I like and it's just goofy and fun. Fun outro too! 7/10
Rihanna - Friend Of Mine: Something something where is the album something something. We are WAITING! Okay, weird start. What the hell is this garbage? Just vocal chops the whole time and barely anything else, and it just sounds bad. Rihanna barely even sings on the song. When she does it's heavily repetitive. Never mind, we don't want the album anymore. That one part is catchy but it's still a bad song. 3/10
yeule - Dudu: Let's hope I enjoy this single more than the last one! It seems catchy from the start honestly so that's promising. It seems a lot more accessible. It does still kinda have eerie undertones to me though. Anyway, I'm enjoying this a LOT more! 7/10
